Blue Hill at Stone Barns, so why the hell are there pictures of wood.. and woods. OK well we didn't exactly eat there. Though, I'd very much like to, it's a little out of financial reach. I'll tell you though, it was one hell of a scone.

Saltie - Ship's Biscuit


Saltie in Williamsburg. This simple and brilliant breakfast is soft scrambled egg and ricotta. I'm generally turned off by pricey egg sandwiches, particularly when it seems so basic. But, I find myself saying over and over... "we should really go back again."

Emmamade Lemonade


When I'm outside of my temperature comfort zone (roughly 72˚-75˚F) I do my best to avoid heat related anxiety, usually sticking my head in the freezer or slipping ice cubes in my pants. My dear sweet lady made some lovely Rosemary Lemonade. With some tweaking of the original recipe, it took me right back to my southern roots (Staten Island).

Five Leaves - Ricotta Pancakes

Mid-July, 90 degrees, a thousand percent humidity... perfect day to meet some friends for a bite with outdoor seating. Put your name in, have a drink down the block at drinkenhausen, and an hour later you've got a seat Greenpoint's premiere brunch spot.

Looking over the menu for a while, I finally settled on pancakes. So what's happening here? We've got ricotta pancakes, with honeycomb butter (looks like ice cream, doesn't it? it's not but it's awesome), banana, blueberries, and strawberries. Oh, and their bacon... phenomenal (not pictured).

It doesn't look like it, but this was an incredibly large amount of food... and I ate a lot of it.

As it turns out, I can't hold my pancakes.

National Doughnut Day

Another one of those National something or other days. This one is Doughnut Day, and it dates back to 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I (not the soldiers themselves... back off soldiers).

Go to Williamsburg's Brooklyn Flea / Smorgasburg, and there's a long line (which I often figure is a sign of good food...  or slow service) leading to a big case of shiny fried circles. After a year of trying to avoid eye contact with solid form diabetes, we broke down and had 2 of what are probably the best doughnuts we've ever eaten.

A few months ago, one of our designer friends brought some doughnuts as a thank you for something i had nothing to do with. I gladly reap the benefits.
